1990-2001 Skyway Broadcasting (WXUS-FM Ft. Rucker, Alabama)

In the late 1980’s I applied for and received a construction permit for a “class A” FM radio station licensed to Ft. Rucker, Alabama. The station began broadcasting in 1991 with particular emphasis on news and events at the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence and Ft. Rucker and it’s tenant activities and organizations. During that time I worked closely with the Ft. Rucker command structure and the Public Affairs Office and was involved with many on base support organizations as well as maintaining effective working relationships with local and regional adult civic groups and organizations in the Wiregrass communities. During that time I served two terms as the local AUSA chapter president as well as one term as the local Daleville Chamber of Commerce president and president of the local Rotary club. I also maintained membership and participated in the local AAAA Ft. Rucker chapter and was active in Friends of Ft. Rucker. I worked closely with many groups on fund raising projects and membership drives.

My duties as General Manager of the station included but were not limited to:

Plan, direct and coordinate the efforts of traffic, sales, air and news toward the accomplishment of overall objectives.

Develop marketing programs, policies and objectives.

Develop and manage a budget to support station operations.

Produce, through the use of creative writing and production techniques, commercials to communicate the client’s message to the radio station audience.
I also have 2 years experience as owner/manager DSA advertising, an agency I created and managed as a temporary business while awaiting approval on the construction permit for WXUS-FM radio. During this time I used my knowledge of creative writing, graphic design and target marketing to advise clients on strategy, message and budget to increase their competitive position in the marketplace.

In addition I have experience previous to 1988 in radio and newspaper, including news content, programming, announcing, production, sales and management (General Manager WZZQ- Amarillo, Texas… Station Manager WKMX – Enterprise, Alabama… General Manager WKLH- Montgomery, Alabama… Sales Manager WLHQ- Enterprise, Alabama…20% share holder/General Manager The Southeast Sun weekly newspaper, Enterprise, Alabama)
