Americanism – Our Own Little Heresy

Fr. Anthony Brankin recently spoke at St. Stanislaus Kostka parish (“A Mother’s Plea”) in Chicago. Pope Leo XIII declared this little known heresy of  “Americanism”.

Is there a difference between being a good American Catholic and being a good Catholic American? What comes first in our hearts when making choices in our personal, public and political affairs?

All too often Catholics (whether conservative or liberal) pick and choose between articles of faith when it suits them. We choose the lesser of two evils and are always seem surprised when we get more and more evil. If the Catholic Faith is the “Sacrament of Civilization” and Catholics make up over 25% of the population, then America should be imbued by Catholic Culture of Life – but it isn’t. Why is this and how can we change it?
